Through-plan houses, residential paths, and a shopping heart in transformation

Woensel-Noord was largely built between 1960 and 1975. In just a few years, almost 8,000 homes were built here. The six-by-eight-meter through-plan house is the standard type: roughly 60% of the housing stock consists of it. Additionally, there are gallery flats, bayonet houses, and later additions.

The urban planning is typically post-war: residential paths, pedestrian axes, and parking squares. Cars are parked at the edge, not directly in front of the door. This gives the residential streets a quiet character, with space for greenery and play.

WoensXL is the commercial heart of the district. With over 140 shops, it is the largest shopping center outside the city center. The area around WoensXL is undergoing a major transformation into Stadshart Woensel (Woensel City Centre): a mixed residential and shopping area with thousands of new homes. This will change the face of the neighborhood in the coming years.

From Blixembosch to Achtse Barrier

The neighborhoods in Woensel-Noord vary greatly. Blixembosch, in the north, is a newer family neighborhood with more spacious homes and its own character. 't Hool and Vlokhoven are typical through-plan neighborhoods. Jagershoef has a more compact streetscape. Achtse Barrier is on the edge and borders business parks.

The church village of Acht is a surprise: a former village with its own church and a village character, enclosed by the city. Vaartbroek and Luytelaer are green, quiet neighborhoods popular with families.

Rental prices are among the lowest in Eindhoven. The homes are older and less luxurious than in Meerhoven or Strijp-S, but you get more square meters for less money. With the transformation of Stadshart Woensel, new-build apartments will also become available.

HOV-bus to the station, highway on the outskirts

The HOV (High Quality Public Transport) bus lane connects Woensel-Noord directly to Eindhoven Centraal. Lines 405 and 406 run via WoensXL bus station to the city center. Travel time is short and frequency is high. By bike, you can reach the station in fifteen to twenty minutes, depending on the neighborhood.

The A58 and A50 motorways are located on the northern edge of the district. This is convenient for motorists, but near Blixembosch, it results in highway noise. A noise barrier is under construction to reduce this.

Parking in Woensel-Noord is easier than in the city center. In most neighborhoods, street parking is free. Over 1,900 parking spaces are available around WoensXL.

WoensXL, parks, and neighborhood facilities

WoensXL covers major grocery and shopping needs. Albert Heijn XL is located there, plus dozens of specialty shops and eateries. Beyond that, there are neighborhood shopping strips scattered throughout the district.

The Henri Dunant Park and Amandel Park offer greenery and play areas. In 't Hool, there is an illuminated calisthenics park. Luytelaer has play and exercise gardens. There are multiple primary schools per neighborhood and sports complexes spread throughout the district.

The Airborne Monument at the intersection of Airbornelaan and John F. Kennedylaan commemorates the liberation of Eindhoven on September 18, 1944, by the 101st Airborne Division. A piece of city history right in the middle of a residential area.
