Stations and Accessibility in Eindhoven

Eindhoven Centraal connects the city with Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Maastricht. The HOV bus network takes you to the High Tech Campus and Eindhoven Airport. And the Hovenring, the suspended bicycle roundabout, is the icon of a city that invests in cycling infrastructure.

Eindhoven is located in the south of the Netherlands, outside the Randstad, but well connected to the rest of the country. Utrecht is 35 to 40 minutes by intercity train. Amsterdam an hour and a half. Maastricht an hour. Düsseldorf two hours with a transfer. Eindhoven Airport offers flights to 79 European destinations.

Within the city, Hermes' bus network is the backbone of public transport. Two HOV corridors with dedicated bus lanes connect the station to the suburbs, the High Tech Campus, and the airport. The bicycle, as everywhere in the Netherlands, is the fastest for short distances.

Eindhoven Centraal: The Gateway to Brainport

Eindhoven Centraal is the city's largest station, centrally located between the city center and 18 Septemberplein. Intercity trains run twice an hour on the Alkmaar-Amsterdam-Utrecht-Eindhoven-Maastricht line.

Travel times: Amsterdam Centraal approximately an hour and a half. Utrecht Centraal 47 to 54 minutes (quarter-hourly service until 11:00 PM). Maastricht approximately an hour. Düsseldorf almost two hours with a transfer. Daily, 19 trains run to Düsseldorf via NS International and Deutsche Bahn.

18 Septemberplein, the Markt, and Stratumseind are within a ten-minute walk. The station is the starting point for all HOV bus lines. Those renting in Eindhoven's city center have the station within walking distance.

Eindhoven Strijp-S: The Creative Station

Strijp-S Station (formerly Beukenlaan) is located in the west of the city, in the heart of the creative district. Sprinter trains stop here. HOV bus lines 401, 402, and 403 connect the station to the city center and the region.

Strijp-S is the district that put Eindhoven on the map as a design city. The station means that residents and visitors of the creative district are directly connected to the rail network, without having to go to Centraal first.

The HOV Bus Network: Express Buses Through the City

Eindhoven does not have a metro or tram, but it does have a High-Quality Public Transport (HOV) network of express buses with dedicated bus lanes. Hermes operates under the brand name Bravo. The most important lines:

Lines 400 and 401 are the Airport Shuttles to Eindhoven Airport (approximately 20 minutes from Centraal). Lines 407 and 408 run to the High Tech Campus, the technology park with 12,500 employees. Other HOV lines connect the station with Veldhoven, Nuenen, and the suburbs.

The bus network compensates for the lack of a metro. The HOV lines run frequently on their own lanes, making them faster than regular city buses.

Eindhoven Airport: 79 Destinations

Eindhoven Airport is located eight kilometers west of the city center, on the border with Veldhoven. In 2024, 6.8 million passengers flew to 79 European destinations. London, Málaga, and Alicante are the most popular routes.

The Airport Shuttle (line 400/401) travels from Centraal to the airport in approximately twenty minutes. Regional buses 103 and 145 offer additional connections.

For tenants who fly regularly for work, the proximity of an airport is a practical advantage. Eindhoven Airport is smaller and more manageable than Schiphol. The travel time from door to gate is short.

The Hovenring: Cycling Above Traffic

The Hovenring is the icon of Eindhoven's cycling infrastructure. A circular bicycle roundabout suspended above a busy intersection, on the border of Eindhoven and Veldhoven. The bridge has a diameter of 72 meters and is suspended by 24 cables from a central 70-meter pylon. Opened in 2012.

The Hovenring has become internationally known as a symbol of Dutch cycling culture. It shows how Eindhoven invests in cycling infrastructure: completely separate from car traffic, safe and fast.

Eindhoven scored low in the Fietsersbond's cycling city elections until 2006. Since then, significant investments have been made in cycle paths, cycle tunnels, and the Hovenring. The city is now easy to cycle, although public transport for longer distances within the city is more important than in Amsterdam or Utrecht.

The Hovenring

A suspended bicycle roundabout with a diameter of 72 meters, hung from a 70-meter pylon by 24 cables. Opened in 2012 on the border of Eindhoven and Veldhoven. It is an international icon of Dutch cycling culture and proof that Eindhoven invests in cycling infrastructure.

Eindhoven Airport connects the Brainport region with 79 European destinations. The Airport Shuttle takes you from the station to the terminal in twenty minutes. Smaller and more manageable than Schiphol, but with direct flights to major European cities.

Eindhoven is not a Randstad city, but its accessibility is good. The train takes you to Utrecht and Amsterdam. The HOV bus network connects the city internally. Eindhoven Airport opens up Europe. And the Hovenring shows that cycling is also taken seriously in the south. Anyone looking for a rental home in Eindhoven would do well to consult the HOV map.
