Village Core, Villa Districts, and the Karpendonkse Plas

't Hofke is the historical core of Tongelre. The old town hall from 1911 still stands there and serves as a community center. Along Tongelresestraat, you'll find small, village-like shops, a world of difference from the city center a few kilometers away.

The Villapark dates from the early twentieth century. On Nachtegaallaan and Parklaan, there are spacious homes on wide plots, some dating back to 1907. Karpen is the neighborhood around the Karpendonkse Plas, a recreational lake created by sand extraction for the railway. The water, pine trees, and oaks give the neighborhood an almost vacation-like character.

Koudenhoven is located on the southeastern edge, bordering the Eckartbos. It features spacious plots, lots of greenery, and predominantly construction from after 1970. Doornakkers-West and Doornakkers-Oost are post-war residential areas with a more compact streetscape. Muschberg and Geestenberg stand out for their distinctive architecture and close-knit community life.

Family Homes, Villas, and Post-War Apartments

The housing supply in Tongelre is more varied than you might initially expect. In the Villapark and Karpen, there are spacious family homes and villas with gardens. In Koudenhoven, you'll find modern family homes on green plots. Doornakkers has more compact terraced houses and gallery-access flats from the post-war period.

Apartments are also available but are less dominant than in the city center or Strijp-S. Tongelre is one of the few districts where you realistically have a chance of finding a rental home with a garden and multiple bedrooms.

Rent prices are among the lowest in Eindhoven. This makes Tongelre attractive for families and first-time renters who want more square meters for less money. The downside: the supply in the free rental market is more limited than in the city center.

Cycling to the City Center, Bus to the Rest

Eindhoven Centraal is about three kilometers from Tongelre. You can be there in fifteen minutes by bike. Bus lines 5, 24, 305, 318, and 319 connect the district to the station and other parts of the city. The frequency is lower than in the city center: this is not a neighborhood where a bus runs every five minutes.

The Geldropseweg runs through the district towards Geldrop-Mierlo. By bike or car, you can reach the neighboring municipality in a few minutes. The Eindhoven Ring Road provides access to the A2 and A67.

Parking in Tongelre is easy. Street parking is free in almost all neighborhoods. This is a big difference from the city center and a reason why residents with a car like living here.

Swimming, Walking, and Shopping

The Karpendonkse Plas is the recreational heart of the district. A picturesque lake with a small island, surrounded by trees. Walking, bird watching, and in the summer, a swim. Natural swimming pool De IJzeren Man is also located in the district.

Along Tongelresestraat, you'll find daily amenities: small shops and a supermarket. The selection is modest. For larger groceries or specific stores, cycle to the city center or WoensXL.

There are three primary schools in the district: De Driesprong, Boschakker, and De Boog. The SPILCentrum combines a primary school, childcare, sports hall, and community center. The DAF Museum on Lakerstraat is a surprising attraction on the edge of the neighborhood.
