Rent a Home in Prins Alexander, Rotterdam
Rotterdam's largest district: single-family homes, residential areas, new-builds on the water, and a city beach. Prins Alexander offers suburban living with metro access to the city center.
Prins Alexander is located in the east of Rotterdam, between Kralingen and Capelle aan den IJssel. With approximately 98,000 residents (2025), it is the city's largest district, bigger than many Dutch cities. The neighborhood was built in waves: Ommoord in the 1960s, Zevenkamp and Oosterflank in the 1980s, Nesselande from 2000 onwards. The result is a green, spacious district with single-family homes, apartment blocks, new-builds, and a city beach on the Zevenhuizerplas. Those who rent a home in Prins Alexander get more square meters per euro than in the city center. Rotterdam Alexander station takes you to Central Station in nine minutes by train.

Ommoord: the Stamp-Patterned Neighborhood with Greenery
Ommoord is the oldest part of Prins Alexander, built in the 1960s. The street plan follows the stamp pattern of that era: repeated blocks of gallery flats and porch-access apartments around green courtyards. The Ommoordse Veld is an extensive park landscape that cuts through the neighborhood. The buildings are a mix of high-rise and low-rise constructions, with spacious green areas in between.
30% of Ommoord residents are 65 or older. The atmosphere is quiet, established, and green. The homes are more spacious than in the city center but more dated. Gallery flats from the 1960s have different layouts than modern new-builds: more rooms, but smaller kitchens and bathrooms. Rental prices are among the lowest in the district.
Zevenkamp and Oosterflank: Residential Areas and Single-Family Homes
Zevenkamp has approximately 15,900 residents and was built in the 1980s. The streetscape is different from Ommoord: residential zones with low speeds, terraced houses with front and back gardens, and play areas on every corner. It's the neighborhood where young families move to. Child-friendly, spacious, affordable.
Oosterflank, south of Zevenkamp, has a similar layout. Single-family homes interspersed with low-rise apartment buildings. There are large rental complexes here. The population is more multicultural than in Zevenkamp. Rental prices are comparable and among the lowest in the district. Both neighborhoods are within cycling distance of Alexandrium and the metro station.
Nesselande: City Beach and New Builds on the Water
Nesselande is Rotterdam's newest residential area. A Vinex location, built from 2000 onwards, with approximately 4,800 homes. The Zevenhuizerplas, a recreational lake with an 800-meter city beach, is located right in the middle of the neighborhood. Strand Nesselande offers beach volleyball, a skate park, running trails, and possibilities for surfing and canoeing. The Rietveldpark provides ecological greenery.
homes in Nesselande are modern: detached, semi-detached, townhouses, and apartments. In the Waterwijk, residents designed their own houses on individual plots. Rental prices for new-build apartments are higher than in older neighborhoods. Metro line B terminates in Nesselande: the district has had a metro station since its initial completion.
Prinsenland, 's-Gravenland, and Het Lage Land
Prinsenland and 's-Gravenland are located in the southwest of the district, towards Kralingen. These are garden city-like neighborhoods with predominantly low-rise and single-family homes. Quiet, green, with the Ringvaartplas in Prinsenland as a central point and the Pietje Bell playground next to it. 's-Gravenland has a relatively high number of families with children.

Kralingseveer, on the eastern edge near the Hollandsche IJssel, has a more village-like character than the rest of the district. It feels more like a riverside village here than a Rotterdam neighborhood.
