Duindorp was built between 1915 and 1930 for the large fishing families of Scheveningen. Tesselsestraat historically functioned as a dividing line: to the right, municipal rental homes for fishing families, to the left, private construction for skippers. The New Year's Eve Bonfire is the annual highlight. A bonfire stack goes up in flames on the Zuiderstrand that can be seen throughout The Hague. The majority of residents are in favor of renovation. It's a sensitive topic in a neighborhood where demolition plans have previously damaged trust.

The location is what makes Duindorp different from other working-class neighborhoods. The district borders dunes on two sides. The Zuiderstrand is within walking distance: a five-minute walk and you're on the sand. It's not the tourist beach of Scheveningen-Bad. This proximity to the beach and dunes makes Duindorp a special combination. A working-class neighborhood with the North Sea as its backyard. On Sunday mornings, you walk through the dunes to the beach. On weekdays, you cycle via Markenseplein to your work in the city center.

Tram 12 to the City Center

Tram 12 is the lifeline of Duindorp. The line connects Markenseplein directly to The Hague Central Station and Hollands Spoor. The journey to Central Station takes twenty to twenty-five minutes. Scheveningen-centrum is within cycling distance, about ten to fifteen minutes.

Parking is limited in the district. In the summer, parking pressure increases due to beach visitors. A car is not essential but is convenient for daily shopping outside the district. Most residents combine tram and bicycle.
