It's a place where neighbors know each other. That sounds like a cliché, but it's true here.

Bouwmeester: Mixed and In Motion

The Bouwmeester neighborhood is closer to the center and has a different character. Approximately 4,300 residents (2025) live in a mix of pre-war homes and post-war apartment buildings. Bouwmeestersbuurt Zuid has homes from four different periods: 44% date from before 1945, the rest are post-war with sporadic new construction from 2005-2015.

The homes vary widely in quality. Pre-war properties in Armhoefse Akkers have character but are not always well-insulated. Post-war apartment buildings in Bouwmeester are functional but dated. Ask about the energy label and maintenance history.

Liveability varies by neighborhood. Armhoefse Akkers scores high on social cohesion. Bouwmeester was a priority neighborhood until 2020, where the municipality invested extra. The situation has improved, but the difference from quieter neighborhoods is noticeable.
