Rent a Home in Deventer Keizerslanden

Post-war working-class neighborhood with over 5,600 homes and a new-build front on the eastern edge. Functional, affordable, with Steenbrugge as the future under construction.

Keizerslanden was built in the 1950s and 1960s, during a period when Deventer was growing rapidly and workers needed housing. The neighborhood has over 11,000 residents (2023), spread across sub-districts such as Tuindorp, Landsherenkwartier, Oranjekwartier, and Rollecatekwartier. It is Deventer's largest post-war neighborhood and one of the most accessible for renters.

More than half of the homes are social housing. This impacts the private sector: landlords investing here target a market where rental prices are lower than in the city center or De Hoven. Renting a home in Deventer Keizerslanden means choosing a neighborhood where the price-quality ratio is more favorable than closer to the center.

Tuindorp and the Landsherenkwartier

Tuindorp, in the north of Keizerslanden, is the oldest part. Single-family homes from the early 1950s, with small gardens and narrow streets. The architecture is sober: no ornamental brickwork, no balconies, but solid construction. The Landsherenkwartier, built in the late 1950s, has a similar profile but a slightly more spacious layout. The streets are wider, the gardens deeper.

The Oranjekwartier forms the middle part of the neighborhood. Here, in addition to single-family homes, there are also apartment buildings of three and four stories. The mix of low-rise and stacked buildings gives the Oranjekwartier a different rhythm than the purely low-rise neighborhoods.

Keizerslanden Shopping Center

The shopping center is the heart of amenities: 25 stores, free parking, a concept focused on daily groceries and convenience. Keizerslanden Sports Hall and the Borgelerbad are nearby. It is not a neighborhood with character in terms of historic buildings or catering terraces, but a neighborhood that functions practically. Schools, shops, sports facilities: everything is available without having to leave the neighborhood.

Steenbrugge: 1,200 Homes on the Eastern Edge

On the eastern side of Keizerslanden, Steenbrugge is emerging, one of Deventer's largest new construction projects. Approximately 1,200 homes in what the municipality calls "Salland building style": red brick, pitched roofs, village-like scale. All homes are gas-free and energy-neutral, with heat pumps, underfloor heating, and solar panels.

The sub-districts bear names such as Dorpshoeve, Wonen in het Hof (Living in the Courtyard), Wonen aan de Weide (Living by the Meadow), and Wonen op het Erf (Living on the Yard). The vast majority are owner-occupied homes, but rental properties are also being added. The first phases have been completed, subsequent phases are under construction. For renters looking for new construction in Deventer, Steenbrugge is one of the few options where the supply is actually growing.
